MEET THE TABLE LEADER: LINDA BOYD

img_2450-jpg

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:

My name is Linda Boyd. I’ve been married to my husband Bill for 41 years. We have two grown children. Bill and I moved from California to Arizona a year ago.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT DESERT SPRINGS & HOW DID IT BECOME HOME TO YOU?

Once Bill and I made our move to Arizona, we settled into church life here at Desert Springs within a couple weeks.

WHERE ARE YOU SERVING AT DSCC?

I am currently serving on the Charis Women’s Coffee Connect Team, formerly titled The Ladies’ Newcomer’s Connection.  Charise Women’s Coffee Connect is designed to help familiarize all women at Desert Springs Church (both new attendees and those who have been attending for a long time) with areas within the church where they may want to get plugged in and involved.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE VERSE & WHY?

My favorite verse in the Bible is 2 Peter 3:9. “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward us, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.”  It’s the verse that I clung to as I prayed and waited for 35 years for my husband to give his life to Christ. God is faithful and answered that wonderful prayer and my heart is full of praise to the Lord for this blessing.

If you see LINDA around, be sure to say “Hi!”

MEET THE TABLE LEADER: DANIELLE KELLER

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:

I live in Litchfield Park with my img_1362hubs and 3 kids. We have been married 23 years and own our own business. Chandler is 19 and a sophomore in college. Hailey is 13, and Ashley is 12. I’m one of those rare Arizona natives and grew up on the north side of town. I love decorating, shopping and all things Pinterest. But my passion is studying God’s Word.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT DESERT SPRINGS & HOW DID IT BECOME HOME TO YOU?

We’ve been attending DSCC for about 11 years. They had just moved into the old building (which had previously been a Catholic church), and the holy water vessel was still in the back of the sanctuary. Things sure have changed since then! We used to attend Palmcroft, and after we moved to Litchfield Park we found out that Pastor Don had moved to Desert Springs to help his son, Steve, out. We figured if he was Don’s son, it must be a good church, and we’ve been here ever since! 🙂

WHERE ARE YOU SERVING AT DSCC?

I serve on the Charis Women’s Team.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE VERSE & WHY?

I have so many favorites, and maybe a few favorites for each season in life. But the one for right now is “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6. God is so good and so faithful, and that which He starts, He will complete! That gives me such comfort and encouragement, as I rarely ever get to see anything to completion in this season of my life. But the Lord is complete, and all that He begins in us He will complete!

If you see DANIELLE around, be sure to say “Hi!”

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:

I was blessed to be raised in a Christian home and accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior at the age of 9. I am so thankful the Lord led me to Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO. It was while I was there that I felt a call to full time ministry. My only stipulation was I didn’t want to go to Africa and I didn’t want to be a pastor’s wife! 🙂 When Don and I met and married, he was in youth work. After 6 years of marriage, God called us to First Baptist Church in Pekin, Illinois, where Don was the Senior Pastor. God knows where He wants to place us to use us for His glory! I am so thankful for the privilege it has been to live my life serving in the church and also international missions work through International Needs. God is so good to allow me to travel with my husband to 55 countries, teaching and encouraging women in their faith.

I have 4 children: Ric, Steve, Shari & Lori. We have 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren & another one arriving in April! My desire as I raised my children was that they would love the Lord and serve Him. I feel so blessed to be a mother, grandmother & great grandmother.

I enjoy walking, traveling, my Premier Designs Jewelry business, hospitality in our home and most of all, time with our family!

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT DESERT SPRINGS & HOW DID IT BECOME HOME TO YOU?

When Don retired from Palmcroft Church, where we has pastored for 17 years, Desert Springs became our church home.

WHERE ARE YOU SERVING AT DSCC?

Don has served as Mission’s pastor here at DSCC, together we started the ministry called Fourth Quarter, and we host a Life Group. I serve on the Women’s Retreat Team and enjoy leading a Bible study table.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE VERSE & WHY?

My favorite verse, which is my life verse, is Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

If you see Sharon around, be sure to say “Hi!”

MEET THE TABLE LEADER: JUDY MULLINGS

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:

My name is Judith Ann Mullings. I love the LORD! I love Bible Study! What a privilege to get to study God’s Words with you Ladies on Tuesday Mornings.

I was born in the Ozarks and raised in the desert. My husband and I went to Kindergarten together. His family and my family went to the same little church in a little farming town in California. We have been married 50+ years. We have 2 sons and a grandson. We enjoy our family very much!

We live in Waddell with a rescue dog, a rescue horse and lots of bunny rabbits. I love watching the sun go down over the White Tank Mountains.

I have several hobbies. I love to read. I always have a book on my night stand that I am reading. I enjoy walking our “run away dog.” I enjoy sewing and embroidering. Working outside in the yard is a treat for me! I have enjoyed horseback riding and team penning and riding my bike.

I graduated from Grand Canyon University when it was Southern Baptist College. I taught school for 30 years. Twenty-seven of those years in the Peoria Unified School District and 3 years in California. I taught Special Education, Learning Disabilities, Grades K- 8. I also helped pilot a Transitional First Grade Program.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT DESERT SPRINGS & HOW DID IT BECOME HOME TO YOU?

Desert Springs Community Church is a blessing to me. Three generations of pastors serving the Lord (a fourth generation growing up). What an encouragement to me! We have been attending DSCC for about 10 years.

WHERE ARE YOU SERVING AT DSCC?

I serve the Lord as a Bible Study Table Facilitator and a 9:30AM Sunday Greeter. I am so thankful for the pastors, pastors’ wives and staff and the opportunity to attend and serve the Lord at DSCC where the Word of God is preached!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE VERSE & WHY?

One of my favorite Bible verses is Isaiah 53:6, “All we like sheep have gone astray, each f us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

One day, my dad had been moving cattle, and he came riding up on a his horse with a little lamb laying across the horse’s neck. He handed me the little lamb. That lamb became a pet running around outside. We would have to go look for him because he was not always where he should be.

I like this verse because my Lord Jesus always comes looking for me when I have gone astray and wanted my own way! The price my Lord Jesus paid for my sins reminds me how much He loves me.

If you see Judy around, be sure to say “HI!”

MEET THE TABLE LEADER: TIFFANY

MEET THE TABLE LEADER: TIFFANY KELLY

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:

My husband Jim and I have been married for 15 years. We have two adorable little boys; Graham is 4, and Reed is 3. I keep very busy chasing my boys around, refereeing wrestling matches, feeding them constantly, going to the park and trying to wear them out so they will go to bed at night! 🙂 We have lived in Goodyear for 7 years and love it. We moved in January, but only 3 miles from our old house and we stayed in Goodyear. I love having a single story home! I enjoy reading, though I don’t have much time for it right now. I also enjoy cooking and baking (just ask my Life Group). I also enjoy my morning walks, taking my boys on dates, and traveling.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT DESERT SPRINGS & HOW DID IT BECOME HOME TO YOU?

We have been at DSCC since we moved to AZ 9 years ago. My family that was out here was already at DSCC, so we just jumped in when we moved here. Serving is a great way to meet people and feel a part of something!

WHERE ARE YOU SERVING AT DSCC?

Currently, I am a table leader, and my husband and I are involved in the new marriage mentoring ministry.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE VERSE & WHY?

Lamentations 3:21-23 “Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.”

This verse is just so rich. Hope, love, faithfulness, we need all of these things every day, and God never gets tired of lavishing them on us. It’s also a great reminder that I need to be sharing those same things with the people around me each day. Even when I really don’t feel like it or don’t want to or they don’t deserve it, that just makes it even more important to show them these attributes.

If you see Tiffany around, be sure to say “HI!”

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:

I live in the West Valley, about 3 miles from DSCC with my husband, David, and our 2 daughters, Olivia & Sophia. Up until last Christmas, I worked at Honeywell as a Finance Analyst, but as I readjust to being home, I’m just trying to enjoy ever minute of our daughters’ high school years before they are over.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT DESERT SPRINGS & HOW DID IT BECOME HOME TO YOU?

We started attending DSCC about 10 years ago. We attended a New Year’s service, and as we listened to people share what the Lord had done in their lives that year, we knew in our hearts that we had found a church home.

WHERE ARE YOU SERVING AT DSCC?

I am serving in the ladies study this fall, and I also am part of the coffee service team.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE VERSE & WHY?

I love the following verses because they are about me. They explain why I am saved while my dad, my brother & my sister are not; they answer the question, “How is it that I can see and believe, yet so many others cannot see?”

“But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:27-29

MEET THE TABLE LEADER: SUE TORRES

img_1314

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:

In a nutshell: I am a 67 year old grandma, an “Israelite”, a musician and servant in the house of the Lord, a daughter of the King, and short-term resident in AZ, waiting expectantly for my new home that Jesus is preparing for me.

I moved to Surprise, AZ eleven years ago.  I came to the desert from Albuquerque to be near my kids and grandkids after my husband passed away.  My five grandchildren are always involved in something whether it be sports or school related,  so it has been my joy to watch them play and grow.  Besides being a grandma fan, I enjoy reading, playing the piano, and hanging out with Abby (my miniature Australian Shepherd).

I went recently with our DSCC group to Israel and then on the extended tour to Turkey.  I am still bubbling over about it, and probably always will.

I was an elementary school teacher for 37 years, and by the grace of God have been retired for 5 years.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT DESERT SPRINGS & HOW DID IT BECOME HOME TO YOU?

I have attended DSCC for 7 years.  My brother and sister-in-law (Steve and Dee Stone) recommended it – I’m so glad they did!

WHERE ARE YOU SERVING AT DSCC?

I have served as a pianist/keyboard player for the traditional service for a little over 5 years.  I have enjoyed singing alto in the choir for 3 years.  Last January, I assumed the position of table leader and now am continuing in that role.

Since I enjoy playing the piano and teaching, I have been playing and sharing Jesus with the residents of as assisted living facility.  Every Wednesday for a little over 5 years, I’ve had the privilege and blessing of this ministry.  Each time I go, I know it might be their last time that they are in a position to hear the Good News and make a decision about eternity.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE VERSE & WHY?

You might think that my favorite verse is an unusual one, but it has been my mainstay and very precious to me for 45 years:  Psalm 61: 2b “When my heart is overwhelmed (faint), lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.”  It has been my frequent prayer to the Holy Spirit to help me lift my head in the tough and scary times in my life, to the Rock of my salvation.  This verse reminds me that God is in control.  He is higher than I and can see the whole picture, so I can be assured and at rest knowing that He has purposed good for me and my life.  When my heart is overwhelmed, I pause and look up where my help comes from.  God is the mighty, established, unchanging Rock that is ever present in my life.
