TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:

I live in Litchfield Park with my img_1362hubs and 3 kids. We have been married 23 years and own our own business. Chandler is 19 and a sophomore in college. Hailey is 13, and Ashley is 12. I’m one of those rare Arizona natives and grew up on the north side of town. I love decorating, shopping and all things Pinterest. But my passion is studying God’s Word.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT DESERT SPRINGS & HOW DID IT BECOME HOME TO YOU?

We’ve been attending DSCC for about 11 years. They had just moved into the old building (which had previously been a Catholic church), and the holy water vessel was still in the back of the sanctuary. Things sure have changed since then! We used to attend Palmcroft, and after we moved to Litchfield Park we found out that Pastor Don had moved to Desert Springs to help his son, Steve, out. We figured if he was Don’s son, it must be a good church, and we’ve been here ever since! 🙂

WHERE ARE YOU SERVING AT DSCC?

I serve on the Charis Women’s Team.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE VERSE & WHY?

I have so many favorites, and maybe a few favorites for each season in life. But the one for right now is “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6. God is so good and so faithful, and that which He starts, He will complete! That gives me such comfort and encouragement, as I rarely ever get to see anything to completion in this season of my life. But the Lord is complete, and all that He begins in us He will complete!

If you see DANIELLE around, be sure to say “Hi!”

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:

I live in the West Valley, about 3 miles from DSCC with my husband, David, and our 2 daughters, Olivia & Sophia. Up until last Christmas, I worked at Honeywell as a Finance Analyst, but as I readjust to being home, I’m just trying to enjoy ever minute of our daughters’ high school years before they are over.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT DESERT SPRINGS & HOW DID IT BECOME HOME TO YOU?

We started attending DSCC about 10 years ago. We attended a New Year’s service, and as we listened to people share what the Lord had done in their lives that year, we knew in our hearts that we had found a church home.

WHERE ARE YOU SERVING AT DSCC?

I am serving in the ladies study this fall, and I also am part of the coffee service team.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE VERSE & WHY?

I love the following verses because they are about me. They explain why I am saved while my dad, my brother & my sister are not; they answer the question, “How is it that I can see and believe, yet so many others cannot see?”

“But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:27-29

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:

My name is Nicole.  I am married and have four children, one dog, and three horses.  I enjoy teaching my children and watching them in their activities.  Two of my children love to rodeo. Another loves gymnastics, and our oldest loves to draw.  Although we’re quite busy, we all love God and always strive to keep Him first in our lives.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT DESERT SPRINGS & HOW DID IT BECOME HOME TO YOU?

Approximately four years ago, my husband researched churches in the area, looking for a church that more closely fits the needs of our family. He found DSCC, and we’ve been attending since that time.

WHERE ARE YOU SERVING AT DSCC?

My husband and I assist with the Children’s Ministry, helping families check-in their children and find their classes. This is also my first year being a table leader for Women’s Bible Study.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE VERSE & WHY?

I don’t have one favorite verse.  There are several verses that I frequently remind myself of during times I am undergoing a trial.

I’ve been blessed to have experienced difficult trials during my younger years, and I’ve seen the Lord’s power in my life in very big ways – when I was young, when I was single, and even now, as a wife and mother.  I’ve lived in different states, at times very financially comfortable and other times not so comfortable.  There were times I could truly feel the Lord with me, and there were times when I couldn’t, not even in prayer.  In retrospect, those days were blessings, too.  Why?  Because now I know….

Joshua 1:9 – The Lord is with me wherever I go.  I don’t need to fear anything.

Proverbs 3:5-6 – I am to trust God with all of my heart and not lean on my own understanding.  My human inclination is to rely on my senses, logic and common sense.  I’ve learned the necessity to abandon all of that.  God sees. He hears. He’s in control, so trust Him.

Last, Genesis 1:3 – Sometimes, I need to go back to the basics, reminding myself of God’s power.  My fear starts to once again resurface, or my human tendencies start to consume me. I then remind myself of God’s power:  He spoke light into existence!  He can change any circumstance at any time, if He wills.  If He doesn’t, He has His reasons for not doing so, and those reasons are good.

If you see Nicole around, be sure to say “HI!”

MEET THE TABLE LEADER: SUE TORRES

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:

In a nutshell: I am a 67 year old grandma, an “Israelite”, a musician and servant in the house of the Lord, a daughter of the King, and short-term resident in AZ, waiting expectantly for my new home that Jesus is preparing for me.

I moved to Surprise, AZ eleven years ago.  I came to the desert from Albuquerque to be near my kids and grandkids after my husband passed away.  My five grandchildren are always involved in something whether it be sports or school related,  so it has been my joy to watch them play and grow.  Besides being a grandma fan, I enjoy reading, playing the piano, and hanging out with Abby (my miniature Australian Shepherd).

I went recently with our DSCC group to Israel and then on the extended tour to Turkey.  I am still bubbling over about it, and probably always will.

I was an elementary school teacher for 37 years, and by the grace of God have been retired for 5 years.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT DESERT SPRINGS & HOW DID IT BECOME HOME TO YOU?

I have attended DSCC for 7 years.  My brother and sister-in-law (Steve and Dee Stone) recommended it – I’m so glad they did!

WHERE ARE YOU SERVING AT DSCC?

I have served as a pianist/keyboard player for the traditional service for a little over 5 years.  I have enjoyed singing alto in the choir for 3 years.  Last January, I assumed the position of table leader and now am continuing in that role.

Since I enjoy playing the piano and teaching, I have been playing and sharing Jesus with the residents of as assisted living facility.  Every Wednesday for a little over 5 years, I’ve had the privilege and blessing of this ministry.  Each time I go, I know it might be their last time that they are in a position to hear the Good News and make a decision about eternity.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE VERSE & WHY?

You might think that my favorite verse is an unusual one, but it has been my mainstay and very precious to me for 45 years:  Psalm 61: 2b “When my heart is overwhelmed (faint), lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.”  It has been my frequent prayer to the Holy Spirit to help me lift my head in the tough and scary times in my life, to the Rock of my salvation.  This verse reminds me that God is in control.  He is higher than I and can see the whole picture, so I can be assured and at rest knowing that He has purposed good for me and my life.  When my heart is overwhelmed, I pause and look up where my help comes from.  God is the mighty, established, unchanging Rock that is ever present in my life.

If you see Sue around, be sure to say “HI!”

Where Are All the Workers? — A Good Crisis

Hey Ladies!

We are getting so close to kicking off our Bible Studies for the Fall Semester & I couldn’t be more excited. Registration begins August 27th!

As many of you know, we have the privilege of having Erica Wiggenhorn speak to us this semester through her Bible Study through the book of Acts, “The Unexplainable Life.” She and her launch team have been posting different graphics and thoughts about what they’ve been learning.

I wanted to give you all a sneak peak of the study by posting this link to one of her launch team’s blogs. This is Lydia’s post on a quote from Week 5 of Erica’s 10 week study. We are so excited to have Erica teach us. She has so much wisdom to share from the Word of God. I think we are going to learn a lot.

I also wanted to encourage you to really consider how you can be serving at DSCC. There are so many ways to get involved, and we do have a need for volunteers in a variety of ministries. If you’re looking for ways to plug in, please email info@dscchurch.com or click this link!

In the meantime, enjoy this post by clicking the link below. I’m looking forward to seeing you all at our Bible Studies that are kicking off September 13th!

LOVE,

Tami

“I can think of a couple of reasons people may not be serving in their local church. One is that sometimes we only want to serve in a place that makes us feel good. Another is that we wait to serve until something comes up that perfectly matches our skills and passions…A natural fit and […]

Update from Tami in the New Year

Happy New Year Everyone!

I was so excited that I got to write “2015” for the first time yesterday!! It’s always exciting to embark on new beginnings, like meeting a new friend, wearing a new outfit we got for Christmas, establishing certain goals for the year, or starting a new eating plan or exercise routine (well maybe not the last two!). A fresh start always gives us a chance to prioritize what’s most important in our lives and how to keep it that way!!

I believe this new chance at “GO” propels us the deeper drive and determination to achieve and accomplish goals we didn’t reach last year or that we are striving to better in the future! All these new beginnings bring about “Resolutions” for 2015!

the-resolution-for-women bookAs Charis Women we have some Resolutions and opportunities we would like to suggest you include in your lives this 2015! Our Charis Connections Ministry provides you with a Book Club to invite your friends to. This year we will be reading and discussing the New York Times Bestselling book, The Resolution for Women by Priscilla Shirer. With many topics specific to womanhood, it will surely provide challenges to all of us, insightful discussions along with a different “life story” shared each month by a woman of DSCC. The purpose of this ministry environment is to provide a warm, non-threatening place to bring unchurched friends and family to be loved on by others so they can find the love of Christ! Pray about what friends God wants you to bring with you!! Email us at chariswomen@dscchurch.com if you would like to join a club. The clubs meet on the first Thursday of each month.

In starting my new Read Through the Bible in One Year program, I tried a new one that includes a commentary devotional.  The author made a great suggestion that we make delighting in the Bible a Resolution this year.  I can’t think of a better way to accomplish this than to join one of our Women’s Bible Studies for this spring semester. Here are the details of our 3 studies starting soon:

  • Sunday evening at 6pm beginning 1/11 – by Beth Moore Children of the Day
  • Tuesday morning at 8:45am beginning 1/13 – Breathe by Priscilla Shirer
  • Wednesday evening at 6:30pm beginning 1/14 – Children of the Day by Beth Moore

If you’re new to DSCC, I would also suggest that you attend our upcoming Newcomers Connection where you can find out more about our church, our opportunities for women and get to know other women. We will have our next Connection on January 27th at 7pm.

We are extremely blessed to have many environments for connecting in whatever season of life you are in. Please check out our website for more details about all of our ministries and opportunities at www.dscchurch.com/women.

See you all soon!

LOVE, Tami

Summer Connections

10476007_10154263088145596_3412271707653878992_nHello Ladies!

It’s been so great seeing some of your faces on Sunday’s and getting a few hugs in. But I have to admit, I’m missing our weekly Bible Study times together! I want to make sure you remember some ways we can connect this summer!

One great connection point is happening this Friday, June 27th, during the Sister’s Choice Crafting event. Whether you quilt, knit, crochet, scrapbook, or do any kind of handwork or craft, you will not want to miss this chance to fellowship, laugh and encourage each other!!

SISTERS CHOICE LOGO

If you haven’t received a phone call from a member of the Get-Away Team, you can expect one very soon. We are calling because getting the word out about an event is no small feat in a church of our size. More importantly though, it’s because we want you to know that you are personally wanted and being prayed for that God will make a way for you to join us if at all possible. We know it doesn’t always work for everyone, but we do hope you will prayerfully consider the possibility of this before The Lord. We very much hope and pray it will work out! Registration is going on right now, both on-line and on the patio between services on Sundays. The due date for registrations is July 13th. The dates for the Get-Away are September 11-13th.1974235

I had the chance to meet one of our speakers, Joan Webb, this past week, and we are in for some life-changing, very practical, powerful teaching that will be interactive and useful for everyone!! She is a very warm, down-to-earth woman that has faced many of the same challenges you and I do on a daily basis. I felt immediately drawn to her personality and very interested in what we are going to experience.

I was also able to connect with a good friend of mine in ministry. We got talking about one of the topics Joan will address (how to live intentionally when one is navigating through a big life transition). With our daughter on the SMI trip, I’m getting a sneak peek this week into the life stage of “Empty Nesting”. I’m realizing that just about the time I’ve gotten one life stage figured out the next one pops up unexpectedly! I’m really looking forward to processing the material Joan will be giving us that will apply to every woman I know, no matter what life stage we are in, going into, or leaving!

The other point of connection is our a summer Women’s Night-out, called “Let’s Taco”!!:) Make sure and save July 11th for this really fun evening of eating “Street Tacos”, “Talking together”, and making “Ziplove” bags to put in your car in order to be prepared to help the homeless on our street corners!

lets_taco Ticket 2014

I hope to see all of you soon! Stay in God’s Word, in prayer & in community!!

LOVE, Tami

P.S. It has done my heart so good to hear and see so many of you having lunch, getting yogurt or meeting for coffee with your Bible Study group or Charis Connections Group!!! Yay!!! Way to stay in community!!!!:)
