Where Are All the Workers? — A Good Crisis

Hey Ladies!

We are getting so close to kicking off our Bible Studies for the Fall Semester & I couldn’t be more excited. Registration begins August 27th!

As many of you know, we have the privilege of having Erica Wiggenhorn speak to us this semester through her Bible Study through the book of Acts, “The Unexplainable Life.” She and her launch team have been posting different graphics and thoughts about what they’ve been learning.

I wanted to give you all a sneak peak of the study by posting this link to one of her launch team’s blogs. This is Lydia’s post on a quote from Week 5 of Erica’s 10 week study. We are so excited to have Erica teach us. She has so much wisdom to share from the Word of God. I think we are going to learn a lot.

I also wanted to encourage you to really consider how you can be serving at DSCC. There are so many ways to get involved, and we do have a need for volunteers in a variety of ministries. If you’re looking for ways to plug in, please email info@dscchurch.com or click this link!

In the meantime, enjoy this post by clicking the link below. I’m looking forward to seeing you all at our Bible Studies that are kicking off September 13th!

“I can think of a couple of reasons people may not be serving in their local church. One is that sometimes we only want to serve in a place that makes us feel good. Another is that we wait to serve until something comes up that perfectly matches our skills and passions…A natural fit and […]

Charis Women’s Summer Event

Hello Ladies!

I hope you are all surviving the heat! I’m up at my sister’s right now in Washington avoiding it! Ha! 🙂

It’s been a while since we as women have all been together and I’m missing all of you! So it’s a perfect time for our summer event! We’re wanting to beat the heat and have a great time all at once!

I want to invite all of you to our “Movie at the Pool” Night. It will be July 15th at 7pm at Erica Wiggenhorn’s home. We’re asking everyone to bring your favorite snack to share along with your swimsuit and a towel!

Many of you are participating in the War Room Bible Study. It’s been a great way to stay connected to God, to each other and grow our prayer lives. We want to celebrate all that you have learned and also challenge the rest of us to live the prayer principles of the War Room so we will be watching the War Room Movie on a huge outdoor screen! You can choose to watch the movie from the pool, or from the deck.

I really want to challenge everyone to bring a friend to this event! I’m especially burdened for those who have just moved to Phoenix recently. This is a great time to go meet some new neighbors or someone you’ve never seen at church and invite them to this fun event!

I’m also excited to introduce a new ministry, which we will tell you about at our event. It’s called “Just Moved,” and will be starting in August! This ministry is all about helping women that have had to uproot their lives and move to a new city. There are so many women in that circumstance in our area!

So the next thing you need to do is go here to sign up:  www.dscchurch.com/women.  The tickets are $10 and you can also get a ticket for that friend you plan to bring! 🙂

I can’t wait to see all of you and meet your new friends!

See you soon!

Update from Tami in the New Year

Happy New Year Everyone!

I was so excited that I got to write “2015” for the first time yesterday!! It’s always exciting to embark on new beginnings, like meeting a new friend, wearing a new outfit we got for Christmas, establishing certain goals for the year, or starting a new eating plan or exercise routine (well maybe not the last two!). A fresh start always gives us a chance to prioritize what’s most important in our lives and how to keep it that way!!

I believe this new chance at “GO” propels us the deeper drive and determination to achieve and accomplish goals we didn’t reach last year or that we are striving to better in the future! All these new beginnings bring about “Resolutions” for 2015!

the-resolution-for-women bookAs Charis Women we have some Resolutions and opportunities we would like to suggest you include in your lives this 2015! Our Charis Connections Ministry provides you with a Book Club to invite your friends to. This year we will be reading and discussing the New York Times Bestselling book, The Resolution for Women by Priscilla Shirer. With many topics specific to womanhood, it will surely provide challenges to all of us, insightful discussions along with a different “life story” shared each month by a woman of DSCC. The purpose of this ministry environment is to provide a warm, non-threatening place to bring unchurched friends and family to be loved on by others so they can find the love of Christ! Pray about what friends God wants you to bring with you!! Email us at chariswomen@dscchurch.com if you would like to join a club. The clubs meet on the first Thursday of each month.

In starting my new Read Through the Bible in One Year program, I tried a new one that includes a commentary devotional.  The author made a great suggestion that we make delighting in the Bible a Resolution this year.  I can’t think of a better way to accomplish this than to join one of our Women’s Bible Studies for this spring semester. Here are the details of our 3 studies starting soon:

  • Sunday evening at 6pm beginning 1/11 – by Beth Moore Children of the Day
  • Tuesday morning at 8:45am beginning 1/13 – Breathe by Priscilla Shirer
  • Wednesday evening at 6:30pm beginning 1/14 – Children of the Day by Beth Moore

If you’re new to DSCC, I would also suggest that you attend our upcoming Newcomers Connection where you can find out more about our church, our opportunities for women and get to know other women. We will have our next Connection on January 27th at 7pm.

We are extremely blessed to have many environments for connecting in whatever season of life you are in. Please check out our website for more details about all of our ministries and opportunities at www.dscchurch.com/women.

See you all soon!

LOVE, Tami

Get Ready for Women’s Bible Study!!

Hello Ladies!!

I know so many of you have been anxiously awaiting the start of Tuesday Morning Women’s Bible Study so I’m happy to let you know that we are just about there!! September 16th is the day to mark your calendars and set your alarms to make sure you don’t miss Opening Day!!

If you haven’t heard, we are studying 1 & 2 Thessalonians, a study called “Children of the Day” by Beth Moore. These two little Epistles written by Paul have so much for us to learn about things to come and how we are to live as we wait with anticipation for Christ’s return. I hope you come ready to dig into the Scriptures and with a great openness for change to take place in your life!

Beth-Moore-COTD-Final-Cover-005600950I’ve experienced some life-change recently and realize it comes in many forms. Sometimes we are forced into it by circumstances, such as dropping my youngest child off at college. (Steve & I are officially in the Empty-nesting Stage) Sometimes it comes as a long awaited goal is reached like retirement or college graduation, or becoming a Grandma. Other times, it’s something we intentionally pursue for the purpose of growth or self-improvement. The greatest change I have ever experienced in my life is when I’ve come to God humbly asking Him to change me, to change the way I think, to change my focus and my perspective, my values, my heart!! God has never once failed to answer that prayer and studying His Word has played a huge part in that process. I hope we can all come with this prayer in our hearts and excitement in our minds for what God is going to do in our lives over the course of the nine weeks we have together.

I so look forward to see all your familiar faces and I’m even more excited about the new faces you will be bringing with you!! It is my prayer and Beth Moore’s prayer that we ask God to show us who He wants us to bring with us. This is a great chance to invite someone from your OIKOS. I’m becoming more and more aware that there are many lonely women in our community, as we all pray and reach out, we can be-friend and bring them to a place where connection with God and each other happens. We will make sure that you and your friend will be seated together and do everything we can to make them feel welcome and comfortable.

Registration is happening right now online at www.dscchurch.com/charis-bible-studies and will also be happening on the patio at DSCC between all services this weekend and next.

I know this is very last minute, but we still have a few available rooms for Our Women’s Get-Away next week, September 11-13th. You can register for this online as well at www.dscchurch.com/getaway! This Get-Away is designed to help us Navigate Life. When I think of that, I often think of the course God has charted for me and the goals I personally want to reach for myself, but this is different. This is more about how we stay the course God has charted for us and yet learn how to deal with the obstacles in our way, the flawed thinking we need to change, the tools to equip us on how to handle the people and relationships we all live with along our journey. Our Pastor has been talking so much about us living intentionally, and this will help every one of us do that better! I hope and pray you can join us!!

I’m looking forward to seeing you soon!

Coming THIS Fall!!

Hello Everyone!

Even though I’ve lived in AZ for 30 plus years, it’s hard to believe that “Fall” is here when it’s over 100 degrees outside! As I’ve been running around from store to store gathering all the things my daughter’s college dorm list suggested, the reality of schools starting, learning becoming a priority again, and a steady routine began to sink in!

As “disciples” or “followers” of Christ, we are life-long learners! I’ve been working through different Women’s Bible Study materials and I’ve been getting very excited about this next year of studies I believe God has led us to participate in! We will be challenged to live as Children of the Light and to be overcomers and see our weaknesses as a gift!

005538485Get ready, Ladies!!! Right around the corner on Sunday Evenings starting Sunday the 17th of August we will be gathering at 6:00 in the Youth Room to learn more about one of the most famous character’s of our Old Testament Sunday School stories we’ve heard since childhood!! As stated by Priscilla Shirer, the author of this study, “Gideon’s story involves far more than a wet fleece and a battle won with 300 soldiers. His epic victory actually tells of one man’s struggle with his own weakness-and the One True God who transformed it into triumph.” Join us as we learn from Priscilla how to open our eyes to a brand new perspective on ourselves, our God and Gideon! Register for our Gideon study here. (You must preregister for this study)

Beth-Moore-COTD-Final-Cover-005600950On Tuesday Mornings, starting September 16th, we will be diving into the books of 1 & 2 Thessalonians with Beth Moore teaching us by video in her new study, Children of the Day. “These books shed light on the relationship shared by those of us that comprise the church. Together we stand shoulder-to-shoulder as we look outward, living in obedience to God’s Word and in anticipation of Christ’s coming.” As we wait with anticipation, just like the church in Thessalonica, we will be challenged to live holy lives and be mobilized to minister the grace of the Gospel of Christ, to grow more in-love with God’s truth and to understand what the days ahead will look like. Register for our Tuesday study here.

Many of you have made your plans and are all registered for our Get-Away to Scottsdale! September 11-13th are some red-letter days on the calendar for us as women of DSCC! If you haven’t registered to join us, it’s not too late!! You can go online today to reserve your spot here.

My personal excitement for all these opportunities to grow in my relationship with God and to grow to know each other as women of Desert Springs is sky-rocketing!! I hope everyone one of you can find an area of ministry to our Women where you can plug in and live together in community.

I’m looking forward to getting us all back together!!

LOVE, Tami

Summer Connections

10476007_10154263088145596_3412271707653878992_nHello Ladies!

It’s been so great seeing some of your faces on Sunday’s and getting a few hugs in. But I have to admit, I’m missing our weekly Bible Study times together! I want to make sure you remember some ways we can connect this summer!

One great connection point is happening this Friday, June 27th, during the Sister’s Choice Crafting event. Whether you quilt, knit, crochet, scrapbook, or do any kind of handwork or craft, you will not want to miss this chance to fellowship, laugh and encourage each other!!

If you haven’t received a phone call from a member of the Get-Away Team, you can expect one very soon. We are calling because getting the word out about an event is no small feat in a church of our size. More importantly though, it’s because we want you to know that you are personally wanted and being prayed for that God will make a way for you to join us if at all possible. We know it doesn’t always work for everyone, but we do hope you will prayerfully consider the possibility of this before The Lord. We very much hope and pray it will work out! Registration is going on right now, both on-line and on the patio between services on Sundays. The due date for registrations is July 13th. The dates for the Get-Away are September 11-13th.1974235

I had the chance to meet one of our speakers, Joan Webb, this past week, and we are in for some life-changing, very practical, powerful teaching that will be interactive and useful for everyone!! She is a very warm, down-to-earth woman that has faced many of the same challenges you and I do on a daily basis. I felt immediately drawn to her personality and very interested in what we are going to experience.

I was also able to connect with a good friend of mine in ministry. We got talking about one of the topics Joan will address (how to live intentionally when one is navigating through a big life transition). With our daughter on the SMI trip, I’m getting a sneak peek this week into the life stage of “Empty Nesting”. I’m realizing that just about the time I’ve gotten one life stage figured out the next one pops up unexpectedly! I’m really looking forward to processing the material Joan will be giving us that will apply to every woman I know, no matter what life stage we are in, going into, or leaving!

The other point of connection is our a summer Women’s Night-out, called “Let’s Taco”!!:) Make sure and save July 11th for this really fun evening of eating “Street Tacos”, “Talking together”, and making “Ziplove” bags to put in your car in order to be prepared to help the homeless on our street corners!

lets_taco Ticket 2014

I hope to see all of you soon! Stay in God’s Word, in prayer & in community!!

LOVE, Tami

P.S. It has done my heart so good to hear and see so many of you having lunch, getting yogurt or meeting for coffee with your Bible Study group or Charis Connections Group!!! Yay!!! Way to stay in community!!!!:)

Charis Connections Fall 2013

Hi Everyone,
It’s so nice to feel the temperatures dropping a little, at least in the mornings and evenings! I hope you are all enjoying it as much as I am. With this great season, we have our Charis  Connection Groups forming as we speak!! Registration is still available to all of you online.

You may not be familiar with this great opportunity for the Women of DSCC, so let me give you a little background. Earlier this year, we started Charis Connection Groups as a pilot program that ran from January through May. Each small group of women met on the first Thursday of the month in a predetermined host home based on where they lived. Each month, a different doctrinal teaching segment and a practical tip segment was discussed in a conversational format so women of all ages could share life experience and godly wisdom with each other. The pilot proved profitable, so we are going to launch a new session of Charis Connections this month. Now is your chance to get involved.

This form of connection is distinct because its topics of discussion are based on the scripture in Titus 2:3-5 where God’s Design for Women to be discipled and to grow in Godliness is laid out for us. From that passage a few strategic components jump out at me.

1. It’s very clear that women need to be teaching and learning from other women that are more mature in their walk than themselves.

2. We need to discuss a certain criteria of learning that Paul says is based on what is good: how to live in loving household relationships, how to live wisely, grow in purity and goodness, how to minister in our homes and live in submission.

3. All these things are to be learned from one woman to the next which shows relationships as vital to the process of growth.

Charis Connections was born out of the desire to be intentionally obedient to these commands. The small group design is to try to intersect women’s lives so relationships will form, which us always the most influential way for learning to take place.

I am praying very much that God will lead you as you consider being involved in this ministry. I read a quote recently that I believe is so important to keep in mind as we prioritize our lives and seek to live intentionally:

“Consumption without contribution makes for a stuffed Christian, Contribution without consumption makes for a shallow Christian”

I hope you will consider contributing to those in the group that need your maturity and experience and at the same time open your heart to consume wisdom from those in the group further along life’s journey than yourself.

Register online at www.dscchurch.com/charisconnections. Also plan to come to our kickoff event this Thursday, October 3rd from 7-8:30pm at the West Campus.  If you have already registered you should be hearing from the team to get your home assignment early this week.

May God’s will be done and may He be glorified!

In Him,

Tami Engram
